Why Not…….Say Yes!

By this time of summer I know a lot of moms and women in general feel like summer is never going to end and are ready for kids to go back to school. Why can’t we do this and that? Why can’t we have another popsicle? Why can’t we have another friend over? Why not? Well, I’m here to help that summer break continue on with fun activities as well as ways to help you not loose your mind by all the Whys!

People start summer off strong and then get exhausted because they feel like they have done so much and yet have so much more to go. Here are a few tips that help me get through summer…

  1. Find time to do unexpected things. Rather that be with or without your kids. Take the time to schedule a girls night or a evening run to Target alone. Or head out to take the kids for snow cones when they have had too much time at home. Don’t add it to your to do list but be open to the unexpected and unplanned. Why not just go with the flow and keep the kids on their toes?
  1. Lock the door and take a bath. I repeat Lock the Door. Take the time to relax whether that be a mid day bath or late night bath. Go all out with bath bombs and salts and soaps. Even if it’s only for 30 minutes, tell the kids that you are going to take a bath and make sure they have what they need. Setting these boundaries over time will become normal and will turn into time that they know you cannot help them do anything. I have always locked the door during and so they know when I am in there to not come Mom me silly! If this just seems impossible then do something easier like paint your nails. I use the colorstreet nail stickys but the InstaDry polish is great for moms on the go! Why not take the time you deserve and know that the kids will be fine?
  1. Have an outing at the Dollar Tree! Give the kids each $10 to spend and let them shop away. Not only will this be fun for them but will also teach them the value of a dollar. Plus they have a few new things to keep them busy at home! Why not spend a few bucks to give them a lesson?
  2. This next one sounds silly but I find it to help…every night before you go to bed…do 50 crunches and 10 push ups. No matter if you have worked out that day or not. Something about doing it right before you go to bed makes that full stomach from earlier or sore stomach from another workout feel better. Why not…..plus you feel skinny when you wake up the next day haha!
  3. Surprise the kids with doing something they thought or would normally think you would say No to. For example, when Jack got upset because I had no fake tattoos for him to put on I whipped out a marker and drew them on him. Nothing a little soap and water won’t get off. Or fill up some pie tins and let them pie each other in the face. You will completely catch them off guard with this one! Why not get crazy with this one and be the cool mom like I talked about in a previous post?

I know a lot of you moms will say some of these or maybe all of these things are not realistic to accomplish or it’s just too much with multiple kids but my question for you is Why? Why not do something not on the to do list? Why not draw on your kids with marker haha? Why not? Why not just say yes and do it and see what happens? Maybe its a disaster and you never do it again. Or maybe just maybe you do it and take something away from it. Now is the time to give it a try and see what happens. Wouldn’t the world be a better place if our kids knew mom was in the bath soaking away the stress to be less snappy at the kids? Tell them that! Tell them that you need that time just like they need your time all day. I have come to see that after a while my kids know this and they respect it.

One thing I have realized with raising my kids is that they just want to know WHY and as long as I can explain and justify my reasoning to them things run a lot smoother. So the next time your kid or friend or family member ask you WHY………..ask yourself WHY NOT?

Until next time….the crazy say yes to it all mom,

I was born and raised in West Monroe, Louisiana. I married my high school sweetheart, Rick, in 2005 and we have two precious boys. I love all things about being a boy-mom but I also love the girly stuff. I love to use my creative mind to make things happen. Give me a glue gun or a costume and I’m ready to go!
